RENEWING YOUR MIND
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Rom.12:1-2.)
In Hebrews 12:3 we find these words: "Consider Him that endured such contradiction...lest ye be weary and faint in your mind.
2 Corinthians 10:5 will be fulfilled: "Casting down every imagination and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."
David said, "Thy testimonies are my meditation," and then in 2 Corinthians 11:3 it tells us, "I fear, lest as the serpent beguiled Eve by his cunning, so your minds may be corrupted from whole-hearted and sincere, pure devotion to Jesus Christ."
In closing, let's repeat what the Psalmist said: "I hate vain thoughts but thy law do I love, when I meditate upon it in the night watches."
If we study those verses carefully we see that we have been given control over our thought life through the power of the Holy Spirit. We are exhorted not to be weary or tired in our minds. But, we have an enemy who seeks to destroy us, and one of the primary ways that he tries to accomplish this is through wearing us down in our minds through a constant bombardment of negative, discouraging, and hopeless thoughts. The Apostle Paul teaches us in Ephesians to use the shield of faith to protect us from the flery darts of the evil one. These darts, or arrows can come in the form of thoughts. At first, it appears that we can defend ourselves from these negative thoughts, and we proudly hold up our shield of faith. But, if the enemy begins to fire these missiles, or darts at us repeatedly, or simultaneously, we can easily become overwhelmed.
The key to vistory is saturate or bombard our mind with God's Word. As we immerse ourselves in God's Word, and pray we can cast down these vain imaginations or lying thoughts, and receive power, love and a sound mind!
