THE HELPER

THE HELPER
By Paul McGuire

In John Chapter 14 Jesus Christ teaches us about the role of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives.  The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter, or the Helper.  The job f the Holy Spirit is to help you live victoriously in this life. This is something that none of us can do apart from a continual reliance on the Holy Spirit.  In fact, it is impossible to live the Christian life without relying on the Holy Spirit!
The Holy Spirit is not some mystical – Twilight Zone experience.  You can be filled with the Holy Spirit, and be normal, sane, rational, and intelligent.  If you are not, or you are barking like a dog on the floor, or acting crazy chances you are definitely not filled with the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit, or the Helper supernaturally helps us in our everyday lives.
Whatever challenge you are facing the Helper is there to help you. Business, finances, relationships, temptations, sin, repentance, power, wisdom, the fruit of the Spirit, ministry, marriage, parenting, and every other practical area of life can be affected by relying on the power of the Holy Spirit.  The Bible teaches us to be intensely practical.  Long term planning, business, education, training, skills, study, hard work, discipline, mathematics, financial planning,  science, economics, budgets politics, medicine, nutrition, and people skills are just a few of the areas the Lord may require us to understand.  This may require formal training, education, or independent study, and practice.  God does not work supernaturally apart from people who rational, practical, responsible, ethical, moral, and prepared!
Then in conjunction with those life-skill dynamics, an environment has been created where the Helper can supernaturally help you.  For the most part God does not bless the lazy, and the unethical.  When you have done what you can by being faithful to grow the talents God has given you, then the Helper will help you.  It is true God is gracious, and forgiving when we make mistakes.  God will honor our sincere repentance, and He will send the Helper to help you when you truly cry out to God.  But, the Holy Spirit is not going to do your laundry for you, or wash your clothes.  Walking in the power of the Holy Spirit is always walking in reality.  If you meet a Christian who is spaced out, and claims to be filled with the Holy Spirit, you can be sure that is not the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is both supernatural, and practical.  Meditate on the Bible verses below, and allow God to speak to you.  If you sense the convicting power of the Holy Spirit then repent of your sins.  Be specific.  The Holy Spirit will lift the weight of sin off of you, and the blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse you of all sin.  Then the Holy Spirit will fill you with power so that you can be an overcomer in life.  An overcomer in every situation!
John Chapter 14

15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.
